When Is the Best Time to Install Motorized Screens in Northern Virginia?
Lead times, weather windows, and why ordering in late winter beats calling in May. A practical timeline for Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William homeowners.
The short answer: before the season you want to enjoy
Every motorized screen we install is custom-measured and custom-built — there is no off-the-shelf inventory to pull from a warehouse. That means a real timeline: an in-home consultation, precise measurement, fabrication at the factory, and a scheduled installation. If you want to be sitting behind your screens for the first warm evenings of April, the consultation should happen in February or early March.
The busiest stretch of our calendar runs from late April through June, when the first mosquito bites and the first 90-degree afternoons remind everyone in Northern Virginia why they wanted screens in the first place. Homeowners who call during that rush still get taken care of, but they are joining a queue. Homeowners who call in late winter get first pick of installation dates and are done before the season starts.
Screens install just fine in winter
There is a common assumption that screen installation is warm-weather work. It is not. Mounting tracks, setting a housing, programming a motor, and pairing remotes are all cold-tolerant jobs, and our installers work through Virginia winters without issue. A recessed installation planned during a remodel or new build can happen whenever the framing is ready.
The consultation itself is also worth doing in the off-season for a simpler reason: you and our team have more time. Measuring an opening for a MagnaTrack system that will handle a floor that is out of level by a couple of inches, or planning a V-Track span across a wide veranda, benefits from an unhurried visit.
Planning around Virginia's actual seasons
Here is the calendar that matters. Tree pollen arrives in force in late March and April. Mosquitoes are active from roughly May through September, with the worst of it in the humid weeks of July and August. The low, hot western sun that makes a west-facing patio unusable shows up in June and stays through early fall.
Work backward from whichever of those bothers you most. Screens ordered in January or February are installed before pollen season. Screens ordered in March or April are ready for the start of mosquito season. And if you are reading this in July on a scorching patio in Ashburn, Fairfax, or Woodbridge — the second-best time is now, and the screens will still be earning their keep in September and every season after.
