1. Who we are
American Light Design, LLC (“ALD”) is the sponsor of the giveaway and the business responsible for the personal information described here. Our contact details are in section 14.
2. What we collect
About you, the person submitting: your name, email address and telephone number, your age and residency confirmation, your acceptance of the Official Rules and the publication agreement, and which optional consents you selected.
About the nominee: their name, how you know them, a phone number or email so we can ask whether they agree to be nominated, the county and ZIP code of their home, and the type of home. If you nominate yourself, this is information about you.
Your entry: the written story and/or video you submit, and the prompt category you chose, if any.
Collected automatically when you submit: the IP address, the date and time, and any
campaign parameters on the link that brought you here (for example utm_source or
fbclid).
Do not include Social Security numbers, financial account details, health details you would not want published, or other sensitive information in a story or video.
3. Why we collect it
- To run the giveaway — confirm the nominee agrees to be nominated, check eligibility, share entries with the judging panel, arrange site checks and administer awards.
- To publish entries — under the publication agreement; see section 4.
- To prevent fraud and abuse — including bought or automated engagement.
- To market to you — only if you separately opted in; see section 5.
- To measure advertising — see section 12.
4. Stories and videos are published
Entering grants ALD the publication rights in Rule 9 of the Official Rules. That means your story or video, and anything in it — including the nominee’s name, likeness and circumstances — may appear in ALD’s videos, social media posts, ads and website, whether or not it receives an award. Likes and shares are counted on ALD’s own post of each entry, so entries that are judged may be posted publicly on ALD’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Write and record only what you are comfortable sharing.
5. Consent, and what is optional
- Required to enter: confirming your age and residency, accepting the Official Rules, and accepting the publication agreement.
- Optional — calls and texts: a separate, unchecked box. Ticking it is consent to be contacted at the number you gave, including with an automatic telephone dialing system or a prerecorded or artificial voice. It is not a condition of entry, of receiving an award, or of any purchase.
- Optional — marketing email.
6. Who we share it with
- The judging panel — independent outdoor living industry experts, who see the entries they score;
- Service providers that operate the giveaway for us — hosting, email, telephony and our customer-relationship system — under contracts limiting them to our instructions;
- Our professional advisors, including counsel and accountants; and
- Authorities, where we are legally required to disclose.
Published entries are, by design, visible to the public (section 4).
7. We do not sell your information
We do not sell your personal information or rent or trade entry lists.
8. How long we keep it
- Nominations: for the entry period and two (2) years afterward, so we can answer questions or disputes about the giveaway.
- Published stories and videos: for as long as they remain in use under the publication agreement.
- Recipient records (releases and tax information): for at least seven (7) years, because tax law requires it.
- Marketing contacts: until you opt out, after which we keep a minimal suppression record so we do not contact you again.
9. Your choices and rights
You may opt out of texts by replying STOP, of email via the unsubscribe link, and of calls by telling us or phoning (571) 366-7862. You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it; deleting a nomination before judging withdraws it. Virginia residents have rights under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, including to confirm, access, correct, delete and obtain a copy of their personal data and to appeal a refusal. Contact us using section 14; we verify requests before acting on them.
10. How we protect it
Nominations are transmitted over an encrypted connection and stored on access-controlled systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
11. Children
Entrants must be 18 or older. If a story or video includes anyone under 18, the entrant confirms a parent or guardian has given permission, as Rule 9 requires.
12. Cookies, pixels and ad platforms
These pages may use cookies and similar technologies, including advertising pixels from Meta and Google, to measure the advertising that brought you here. Those platforms process data under their own privacy policies. Blocking these technologies does not prevent you from entering.
13. If you receive an award
Recipients sign a publicity and rights release and provide tax information, which we use to report the award’s value; ALD may issue an IRS Form 1099. The reveal and installation are filmed with the recipient’s written permission.
