Send us a short video or write their story — video entries get extra weight, and likes and shares on your entry once we post it count toward the score. A panel of independent outdoor living experts from across the industry will review every entry, and more than one entry may be selected to receive an award. How it works

From nomination to installation

Nominate

Anyone can nominate a homeowner (or themselves) by submitting a short video or written story explaining who they are and why they’d love MagnaTrack Motorized Shades. Any good reason is welcome. Every entrant accepts the publication agreement before the entry is submitted.

Confirm

ALD contacts the nominee to confirm they agree to be nominated and that the home qualifies.

Judge

A panel of three independent outdoor living industry experts — each from a different outdoor space company, none employed by ALD — scores entries against the published criteria and narrows to about five finalists.

Site check

ALD visits each finalist’s home to confirm the project is feasible.

Award

ALD selects one or more recipients. The reveal and installation are filmed with the recipient’s written permission.

The award

Up to $50,000 in MagnaTrack Motorized Shades

The total value of all awards is capped at $50,000, split among one or more recipients at ALD’s discretion.

MagnaTrack Motorized Shades

By Progressive Screens, an American company, installed by ALD.

Installation of the shades

Each award covers the supply and installation of the shades by ALD — installation of the shades only.

Valued at standard retail

Each award’s value is ALD’s standard retail price for the installed project. This is the figure used for tax reporting.

What the award does not include

Installation of the shades only. Custom work, painting, staining, electrical, structural preparation, permits and plumbing are excluded (Rule 7). Any excluded work needed to complete an installation, including providing electrical power for the motorized shades, is the recipient’s responsibility and cost.
The number and size of awards are not fixed. ALD may award fewer than the maximum, or none if no entry qualifies.
Not transferable and not redeemable for cash.
Recipients sign a publicity and rights release, provide tax information, and schedule installation to be completed by December 25, 2026.
Taxes are the recipient’s responsibility. ALD may require tax information and may issue an IRS Form 1099.

Eligibility

Who can receive an award

To receive an award, the nominee must

Own a single-family home or townhome, or be a nonprofit organization with the property owner’s written permission to install at its location.
Live in ALD’s service area: Prince William, Fairfax, Loudoun, Fauquier, Page or Warren County, Virginia.
Be 18 or older and a legal U.S. resident.
Agree to be nominated, and agree in writing to filming and publicity.

Not eligible

Condos and apartments.
Homes outside the six counties above.
ALD employees, contractors, and immediate family members of either.
A home or property that cannot take MagnaTrack Motorized Shades, as confirmed at the site check.

Judging

How judges score each entry

Criteria	Weight	What judges look for
Impactful story	70%	How the shades would make a real difference for the nominee, and how compelling the entry is: heartfelt, humorous, insightful, creative, well thought out or well produced.
Likes	10%	Likes on the entry’s post on ALD’s Facebook and Instagram pages, scored relative to other entries.
Shares	10%	Shares of the entry’s post from ALD’s pages, scored relative to other entries.
Video entry	10%	The entry includes a video. Any video earns this credit in full, including a simple phone video; strong production can also count under Impactful story.

ALD confirms during the site check that a finalist’s home or property can take MagnaTrack Motorized Shades. An entry that can’t be installed is not eligible.
Likes and shares are counted only on ALD’s own post of each entry, over the same fixed window for every entry (November 10 through November 23, 2026). Judges may disqualify engagement that appears bought or automated.
Written entries need to be posted by ALD to earn likes and shares. ALD posts every entry on its Facebook and Instagram pages on November 10, 2026.
ALD can take up to two weeks after nominations close to select recipients, and likes and shares are counted during that time. Recipients will be announced by November 23, 2026.

Does it cost anything to enter?

No. No purchase necessary, and a purchase does not improve the chance of receiving an award.

Is the award chosen at random?

No. Every entry is scored by a panel of independent outdoor living industry experts against the published criteria. No recipient is selected at random or by chance.

Can I nominate myself?

Yes. Anyone can nominate a homeowner, including themselves.

Does my video need to be professional?

No. Any video earns the video credit in full, including a simple phone video. Strong production can also count under Impactful story.

What happens to my video or story?

By entering, you agree that ALD may publish your video or written story in its videos, posts and ads, whether or not it receives an award — so tell the story you’d be proud to share. See Rule 9.

What if the home can’t take the shades?

ALD visits each finalist’s home to confirm the project is feasible. An entry that can’t be installed is not eligible.

Is the award taxable?

Recipients are responsible for any taxes on the award. Its value is ALD’s standard retail price for the installed project, and ALD may issue an IRS Form 1099.
