Can I leave my awning extended in windy weather?
No — and no honest awning company says otherwise. The retract rule, and the sensor that enforces it for you.
Can I leave my awning extended in windy weather?
No — and be wary of anyone who quotes you a wind-speed number an awning can supposedly ride out. An extended awning is a large fabric surface on lever arms; wind loads multiply through it into the brackets, and gusts add shock loads on top. That is the physics of every retractable awning made, ours included, which is why we publish no wind rating and give you the honest rule instead: in wind, the awning's place is retracted, where a cassette housing protects it completely.
The practical answer is the wireless wind sensor we recommend on every installation: it monitors conditions and retracts the awning automatically when gusts exceed its threshold — no app, no human required. Mid-Atlantic storms build fast; the sensor is faster, and it works while you are at the office.
